What are silicones:

In general, volatile and cyclic are two different concepts differentiated by their molecular differences. Volatility can be present in both silicones though not all.

What is it used for:

Silicones are used in  skin creams for a super silky, non-greasy feel. These are also used in hair care products to give hair a luxurious bounce and shine.

Why we are featuring it:

What we do know is that cyclic methylsiloxane D4 is toxic to marine life. These are bioaccumulative and have the potential for reproductive toxicity and endocrine disruption. This was replaced by D5 which is fairly similar to D4!

There have been silent moves around the world in quietly removing cyclical silicones from products. Garnier did it and though there was uproar that its being done for sound bites, the customers were delighted. Cyclic silicones include cyclotetrasiloxane (D4), cyclopentasiloxane (D5), cyclohexasiloxane (D6), and cyclomethicone.
